2 Days Down, 178 To Go

Hey hey hey!! How are you? I hope you're all doing good! I just wanted to post a little life update, cause things have happened (lol that sounds so dramatic).
So today I had my second day of school. I survived but I can already tell this year is gonna be tough. I have all honors and AP classes, and I've already had a ton of homework (not even including summer work). I like most of my teachers though, which makes classes better. OH and this year I drive to school instead of taking the bus which makes life so much better. My hatred for the bus is unrivaled by almost everything on this Earth.
I have a drawing class to which I'm super pumped about. I got special permission from the art department to take drawing since technically I don't have enough credits to take it yet. I love drawing so much; it's my favorite art form. I don't think I've talked about art much on here, but I'm very involved in the fine arts, and it is honestly one of my passions. I'm even considering minoring in fine arts in college. Wow I've gotten off track. Anyways, I don't have any friends in my drawing class but I don't even mind. I'd rather be alone at a table and be able to work without distractions, if I'm being honest. At least in an art class. I love my precalc teacher, and so far I really like the class. Hmm what else. I do have seven classes total, but nothing very interesting has happened yet in any others.
I hope your first day of school goes or went well!! Peace out from a very tired junior :)

With tons of love,

ps. Go check out my highlights of summer if you haven't already.. one post down ;)

The Highlights of Summer '16

Hey guys! So, I'm sorry that this is coming to you a day late. I totally forgot yesterday, whoops. I know I said I would be doing back to school posts, but today I was looking through my pictures and feeling a lil sad that summer is coming to an end. I couldn't face making a back to school post, so I decided to make almost like a photo diary of the summer instead.
All these photos are my own.

On the last day of school, I hosted a party and me and my friends
celebrated the end of the school year. We tried to take an ~artsy~ picture and this is what happened. I like it anyways.

I went with my friends to watch the Old Home Days fireworks. They were
so impressive for our little town. My friend brought candy
and glow sticks, and we got super hopped up on sugar.

My friend, B*, convinced me that we should go see the sunrise at the beach. We woke
up at 4 and drove to the beach. We brought a blanket, and had donuts and coffee
for breakfast, and then went swimming. The beach was completely empty,
and the sunrise was gorgeous. The picture doesn't do it justice.

I went to this stunning historic mansion on the beach that was built in the 1920s.
The tour was so cool, and the views were, well, you can see.

I celebrated the 4th with my friends and family and, of course, a ton of sparklers.

My family and I traveled to CANADA!

Niagara Falls to be exact. We went for a week, and it was one of the most
beautiful places I have ever been.

The American Falls

The Canadian Falls

We watched the fireworks over the falls. The fireworks were incredible;
I have never seen anything like them. It was perfect.

When we were in Canada, I saw my first Great Lake. I was awestruck. I could have
sat on those rocks for hours. I mean, I've seen oceans before. But all of the lakes I've been to are minuscule in comparison to this one (Lake Ontario).

After we left Canada, we went to the mountains for the day. I love the mountains so much,
and I look forward to going every year.

I went to the aquarium with my best friend, my brother, and his girlfriend. It was so cool,
and my best friend had never been so it was fun to take her. After the aquarium, we
wandered around the city, and got ice cream.

So those are my highlights of the summer. I have a ton of photos from this summer (almost 3,000), so it was hard to pick just thirteen. I have so many more great memories from this summer, so many more than I even have pictures of. I'm so happy that my summer turned out the way it did. It was full of adventure and beauty and trying new things. If you enjoyed this kind of post, let me know, and maybe I'll do more. I hope your summer is/was amazing, and I'd love to hear about it. Okay, now I really have to go do my summer work that I've been procrastinating doing.

Back to School with Em: My BTS Playlist

Hey hey hey!! I was planning to do a BTS clothing haul this week, but since I haven't done any shopping yet, I had to change my plan. I rolled with it (cause I'm a kool kat). I decided to do a playlist, because music keeps me sane in the back to school season. I honestly couldn't come up with fifteen school related songs (or actually, even one). Because of that, these are just songs I really like, songs that make make me happy, song that I would actually listen too (and will actually listen to) when I got back to school. Here we go!!

Shape of Love // Passenger
The Middle // Jimmy Eat World
Cool Kids // Echosmith
Arabella // Arctic Monkeys
Where Did Your Heart Go Missing? // Rooney
Getaway // Red Hot Chili Peppers
Troublemaker // Grizfolk
Bubblegum B*tch // Marina and the Diamonds
Shake It Off // Taylor Swift
Bored to Death // Blink-182
Self Esteem// The Offspring
Try// Colbie Caillat
Uptown Funk // Bruno Mars
Handclap // Fitz and the Tantrums
Icarus // Bastille

I hope you find some musical inspiration in this playlist. If it's not your taste, sorry, but it's mine. I know this will make the trauma of going back a lil better for me, and I hope it does the same for you guys :) What's your must have song for school? Lemme know in the comments!

With tons of love,
Emmerz :)

10 Things Every Girl Should Know

Hi guys! So I was on Tumblr, and I found this (I didn't write it), and I wanted to share it with you guys, because I absolutely love it.

1) Learn to put on your bracelets and zip up your dresses by yourself. There will be times when you will be alone.

2) Get on a long plane ride. Look out the window. Understand the immensity of our world.
Understand your insignificance. Understand your absolute importance.

3) Press the send button. If you don’t say it now, you never will.

4) Do not sneer at happiness or roll your eyes at sadness. Be aware that apathy is not healthy.

5) You are more than the amount of people who follow you.

6) That pit in your stomach when he doesn’t text you back, it shouldn’t be there. No one should be able to control you like that.

7) Shopping is cathartic. Buy the shoes and deal with one-ply toilet paper for a while.

8) It will get better, but it will never be perfect. Learn to live through the small moments of happiness. When they disappear, remember they will resurface.

9) I promise that cookie will not change anything (except that it will make you smile).

10) Please, please, take care of yourself. You are everything to somebody. You are everything to your self. That alone is enough.

With tons of love,

ps. I hope your day is going great!

3 YEARS?!?

Hi there! How are y'all doing on this fine day? I gotta say, I'm doin' great!
Maybe some of you are wondering what "3 YEARS?!?" means. You probably think I've finally lost it. But no, I'm just super excited because today is My Life as Your Average Teenager's third birthday. I almost can't believe it. So much has changed.
When I started this blog, I was a scared rising freshman looking for an outlet to talk about high school and all that teenage stuff. I was a thirteen year old who had just gotten their heart broken for the first time, and was worried about upperclassman.
Now, I'm a rising junior who's still figuring life out. Since I started this blog, I've (mostly) figured out high school, I've lost some friends but gained some too, I've had by heart broken, broke some of my own, become an upperclassman (and I will never harass a freshman), had the worst summer of my life, and had the best summer of my life. I've grown, literally and figuratively.
If this blog is not the epitome of being a teenager, I don't know what is. It's only been three years; in the context of life, that's not that long. But so much has changed. And that's okay. I'm okay with that. I'm more than okay with that.
I hope in another year, or two, or three, I'll still be running this blog. Who knows where life will take me. I certainly don't. I want to thank you guys though, for reading my posts, for following me, for commenting, for making this experience worth it. It's been so worth it.

Back to School with Em: My School Morning Routine

Hey hola hi!! How are you? I hope you're fantastic!! So, I've been away touring colleges with my family all week, so I'm kinda rushed to write this post, but let's do this! Whoop! By the way, this post will be about the first day of school; typically I leave my hair natural but I like to be a lil fancy for the first day.

Step 1: Finally wake up to one of my seven (yes seven) alarms..

Step 2: Stumble downstairs to get some caffeine, in the form of coffee or tea (I take both black, in case you're wondering, but you're probably not).

Step 3: Go back upstairs to my bathroom with tea or coffee, and wash my face (Neutrogena Gentle Skin Cleanser).

Step 4: Moisturize my face (Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Oil Free Moisture).

Step 5: Put my contacts in, cause seeing is cool.

Step 6: Makeup time! (in order)
*under eye concealer (Maybilline Age Rewind Concealer)
*spot concealer (Neutrogena Healthy Skin Smoothing Stick in shade Light)
*mattifying powder (E.L.F. Translucent Mattifying Powder)
*contour (Mellow Powder Blush in shade Bronze)
*eyebrows (some random dark eyeshadow I've had forever)
*highlight for dat glow (Pixi by Petra Blush Duo in shade Rose Gold)
*curl eyelashes (E.L.F Eyelash Curler)
*mascara (Covergirl Full Lash Bloom)

Step 7: Curl hair with a 1.5 inch iron for loose curls.

Step 8: Get dressed in one of the *fire* outfits that will be in my First Week of School outfits post (coming soon).

Step 9: Eat something.

Step 10: Rush out the door with my brother, pick up my neighbor/best frand, and drive to school.

Step 11: Cry tears of sadness once I arrive at school because summer is over (just kidding) (kind of).

These are my steps to getting ready, Em style. I wasn't sure how to format this, but I hoped you liked it. What's your morning routine like? Comment down below. Also, if you want a more in depth makeup routine or hair routine, comment below. Imma wrap this up because it is super late and I've been traveling all day #dedication (I hate myself). Alrighty.

Back to School With Em: School Essentials

Hey smarties! It's (kind of) back to school season, and this year, I'm doing something cool: Back to School with Em!! This week's Back to School with Em post is a school essentials/must haves. These are my personal essentials; I'm not saying that you have to have this stuff. Without further ado (I literally had to look up how to spell ado. It's one of those things you always say, but then you're like wait what am I actually saying. Just me? Okay.) here are my school essentials!

A large backpack: Okay so some (a lot) of the girls at my school carry these little purses, and then hold their books/lunch/water/prettymucheverythingbecauseletsberealthosepursesaredamnsmall. I'm not about that life. I like to stuff everything in a large (preferably cute) backpack, hoist it onto my shoulders, and go on my way.

Chapstick: I've looked into it, and I'm pretty sure I'm actually addicted to chapstick (kidding) (well sort of)

Mechanical pencils: When the class of 2018 arrived at the high school building two years ago, many dazed and overwhelmed individuals jumped aboard the pen train. But not I. Not I.

My phone: I'm surprised I didn't think of this sooner, considering how addicted my mom thinks I am to it *insert teenage eye roll* How would I write down post ideas or communicate without it.

Earbuds: These go with the phone (duh).

Lunch: I get super hungry so yanno, food. I'm actually hungry right now... brb

Planner: I have the memory of a goldfish when it comes to boring stuff. Sure, I can tell you what color shirt I was wearing on the first day of third grade (white, and it said 'I'm the queen' in glitter). When it comes to homework though, man. I couldn't remember for the life of me. So I write it down.

Hair ties: Once a want, now a need. I have a lab class (Chem) so I need hair ties, lest my hair gets burned off in a laboratory accident including hydrochloric acid and a clumsy lab partner...

The usual school supplies: To be honest, I couldn't be bothered to list them all out. School supplies don't really interest me, but judging from the amount of school supplies hauls on YouTube, I would say it interests other people. I wasn't planning on doing a school supply haul, but if you want one, comment down below.

I hope this post made you smile, inspired you, or at least made you feel a tiny bit better about going back to school. Stay tuned for more Back to School with Em posts, coming to you every Friday until September 2nd (or possibly later).

With tons of love,

My Plans Have Been Foiled

Hiiiiii!! How's your Tuesday going? Hopefully better than mine (okay, that's a bit dramatic. My Tuesday wasn't horrible.)
So today, I went to some clothing stores to do a bit of back to school shopping. I set out with my ma, and I was super excited because 1.) shopping, 2.) back to school shopping and 3.) I was planning to do a back to school haul, perhaps as the start of a back to school series :O *gasp*
To borrow a saying from 2008, it was an epic fail. I wanted to get some new jeans, and I found a pair that fit (yay). So, I grabbed a few more pairs in the same exact size and style, and they didn't fit. I must of tried on at least 30 pairs of jeans at that store. The sales people thought I was crazy, I swear. Discouraged, I headed to a different store. Their jeans never used to fit me, but hey, I grew. Maybe they fit me now. Nope. We tried a few more stores, but at that point, I lost my enthusiasm. Jeans hate me, I swear. Always have, always will.
So now, it's back to the drawing board for Friday's post. If you have a suggestion for a post, you know what to do (comment down below).

With tons of love,

BAD BAD Blogger

Hey hey hey!! How are you guys? I hope you are all well!
So, someone around here (me) has been a BAD BAD blogger. I know I disappear every few months without a reason. On one hand, I really regret that, because before I left we had a really good thang going. I had a lot of readers, and I really appreciate that. On the other hand though, I kind of had to go. I was getting really frustrated with what my content was becoming, as I felt that it was kind of superficial. Don't get me wrong, I love doing hauls and makeup and clothes. I love doing put together posts that make me feel like I have my life together, but I also want to do posts that are real. I want my blog to represent who I am, like it did when I first started blogging. I want to share my favorite songs with you, I want to rant, I want to tell you about my fails, I want to tell you about my bad days, and I want to tell you about the days that make me feel completely alive and whole and happy. I want it to be real.
To compromise, I am going to do both. There's still going to be a post every Friday, something a little more put together (and possibly prewritten). I'll also post anytime if there's something I want to say, something I want to share with you guys. You guys are super important to me, and I don't want to put on an illusion 24/7 for this blog, simply because it isn't true, and I'm not perfect.
I'm sorry that it took so long to come up with this solution, and I'm sorry I felt so alienated from my blog, from my readers, for so long. I hope with all of my heart that you guys understand.

With tons of love,

ps. Talk to you next Friday.. or sooner :P

Collective Makeup Haul!!

Hi beautifuls! This week's post is a haul, and I've never done a haul before. I bought all this makeup over a period of a couple months, and I thought I would show you guys what I got. I love makeup so much, so I'm super excited for this post. Before we get into it though, I have two disclaimers: 1. I bought everything in this post with my own money, not my parents money or anything and 2. I didn't go out and buy all of this in one go; I've been collecting it. With that out of the way, let's get started!

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Colors in Lust for Blush and Divine Wine

Almay One Coat Thickening Mascara

e.l.f. Instant Lift Brow Pencil in Taupe

(I can't find a link for this anywhere, but I got it at Target)

e.l.f Translucent Mattifying Powder

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Smoothing Stick in Light

Almay Liquid Eye Liner in Black

So that's it! If you guys have any questions about how I liked the items or anything just comment. And I left a link to where I got everything under the pictures, so if you like it you can get it!

With tons of love,

Welcome to Society

Hey cuties! Sooooo, today I thought I would do something I haven't done in a really long time: post a poem I wrote. There are some old ones still up, and I haven't taken them down even though they're really embarrassing.. Anyways, here it is! I hope you like it

Welcome to Society
Don't be put off by the conformity
Trust us, life is better here
We’ll make the requirements perfectly clear

Please be graceful, beautiful, and fit
If you're not, please see to it
Please be yourself, be unique
But for the love of God, don't be a geek

We’re sorry to tell you, but you're all wrong
You're tall and awkward, your limbs are too long
Your smile's too real, you're not enough
We apologize, but this world is tough

Not to be rude, but it is your fault
And tearing people down is our default
You cannot make it in this place, my dear
But, just one more thing...You're stuck here

Soooo yeah.. That's it! I hope you enjoyed it! Oh and if you want me to do a certain post, comment below!

With tons of love,
Em <3

Cute Date Ideas for Valentine's Day!!

Hello my Valentine's!! I hope you all have a marvelous Valentine's Day on Sunday, and maybe you can get some ideas from this post. You can do these with your Significant Other, or with your besties if you're single (like me!) Let's get right into it!
  • Bake treats
What's better thank just hanging with someone you love (or like, or can barely stand, whatever)? The answer: hanging with someone you love, with fresh homemade baked goods. Even if they come out awful, it'll still be super fun, and you can laugh at your fails.
  • Go ice skating
This date is so super cute. You can go indoors if you live somewhere warmer, or you can go outside if it's freezing where you live (like where I live). You can hold on to your sweetie if you're having trouble, and even if you can skate fine, you can fake having trouble. It works like a charm, I promise.
  • Explore a local city
It doen't even have to be a big city. You can walk around with your babe, and the snow will start to fall, and you'll snuggle close. Then you can go get coffee/hot chocolate at a quaint little coffee shop, and people watch. *sigh*
  • Go on a hike
Okay, I'll admit this is not my ideal date, as it involves exercise and I'm more of a potato. For some people though, this might be right up your alley.
  • Walk on the beach
I had to include this stereotypical date, sorry. It's stereotypical for a reason though, because almost everyone loves it. It's relaxing, and a great date for old and new couples/friends as there would be plenty of time to talk.

I hope this gave you some ideas if you needed them! Comment down below what your Valentine's Day plans are. I love you all oodles and oodles, and I hope you have a great day!

With tons of love,
Em <3

Liebster Award!!!

Hi guys!!! This week, I have some really cool news! My blog was nominated for a Libster Award (squeeeeee)!!! To be honest, I didn't know what this was when Dottie first nominated me, but it's an award to raise awareness of small bloggers. Basically, someone nominates you, you answer 11 questions that the nominator posts, then you nominate 11 bloggers, and create 11 questions for them to answer. If you're confused, check out Dottie's blog because she explains it really well.

Dottie's questions for me:

1. What would be your desert island album? (Basically if you could only listen to one album for the rest of time, what would it be?)
Ack this is so extremely hard to choose!! I have like three favorite albums, but I would have to say Electra Heart by Marina and the Diamonds. It's soooooo good!

2. What is your favourite quote, and why?
“So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.”
This quote is from The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is one of the best books in the entire universe. I love this quote because it reminds me that the past does not define a person, and we always can choose our future and have control over what's to come.

3. What three people do you look up to the most, and why?
*My best friend: She grew up with a pretty dysfunctional family, and because of that had a horrible childhood, but she is one of the most optimistic, loving, and generous people I know and I think she's really inspiring and I love her to pieces.
*The biology teacher I had last year: She's like the older sister I never had, without the arguing. She gives great advice, and she's the coolest adult I know.
*My dad: He's kind to everyone and he's funny (he makes dad jokes funny somehow).

4. What was the last whole album you purchased?
Badlands by Halsey

5. If you could see any band (ever to exist) live, what band would it be, and why?
Probably Passenger because I've seen him live before and he's such an incredible live performer and so down to Earth and entertaining.

6. Coffee shop or restaurant, and why?
Coffee shop because I like pastries and coffee more than like dinner food.

7. Do you prefer going to the cinema, or watching movies at home?
I don't like movies that much; I find it hard to pay attention during the whole thing.

8. What medium is best for playing music (vinyl, CD, iTunes, tape...)?
I like iTunes personally.

9. Do you have a "usual" drink in a coffee shop? Yes, a Caramel Macchiato

10. What three words would you use to describe your style?
Hmm, I would say varied, girly, and grunge.

11. Why did you start your blog, and how do you want it's future to be (e.g. professional, personal, etc.) ?
I started my blog as something to do to distract myself from the impending doom of my freshman year of high school. Honestly, I haven't really thought of its future, but I want it to stay personal.

My nominations:
Diary of a Lonely Girl
Lauren from Simply Lauren Elizabeth
Rose from Kisses, Rose
Annie from Mixing Sugar and Salt
Ailish Elizabeth from Ailish Elizabeth

My questions for them:
1. What is your favorite animal and why?
2. What did you want to be when you grew up when you were 5?
3. Would you rather live in the city or the country?
4. Why is your best friend your best friend?
5. What is the most awkward thing you have ever done?
6. What are you spectacular at?
7. Describe your personality in three words:
8. What subject did you/ do you hate in high school?
9. Do you like Valentine's day or do you think it's a scam?
10. What do you hope of the future?
11. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Next week, I'll have a Valentine's Day post, so stay tuned. If you have an idea for a Valentine's Day themed post that you want, let me know in the comments!

With tons and tons of love,
Em <3

ps. For some reason, the formatting on this post was not feelin' it, so this post took me forever to make.. stupid computer XD
pps. But it's snowing here and it's absolutely gorgeous, plus I have a dog sleeping on me so life is good, guys.
pps. Shameless self promotion: I just made a VSCO so if you follow me at emmarose1818 I'd love you forever

Where Have I Been

Hi lovelies! I'm sososososo sorry for the super long break from blogging, and for just disappearing. I was very busy during the holidays spending time with family and friends. After the holidays, I had school which was super crazy because it was the week before midterms, so I had a ton of work, projects, and studying to do. Last week, I had my midterms and I was busy studying, so I didn't have any time to write posts. I know it's been a really long time, but I promise I'm going back to posting every Friday now. You guys are the best!! I've missed blogging so much, and I'm so glad to be back!

With tons of love,
